COLUMBUS, Miss., April 11, 2025 – Four members of the security team at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle recently completed crisis intervention training offered by the Columbus Police Department and Community Counseling Services. Graduation was held on Friday, March 28 at the Columbus Police Department.
Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) equips first responders, including law enforcement, with the skills to identify and de-escalate mental health crises, promote safety and divert individuals from the criminal justice system to appropriate mental health care. Members of Baptist Golden Triangle’s security team were invited to be a part of this specialized training.
The graduation ceremony included remarks from graduates, guest speaker, Captain Glenda F. Sherrod with the City of Louisville, Mississippi Police Department and the presentation of the Crisis Intervention Team pins for the graduates.
Capt. Sherrod quoted Matthew 5:9 stating, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God,” and reminding them that they are now the key to “de-escalating and leading with empathy when dealing with those with mental illnesses”.
