Baptist Golden Triangle nationally recognized for Straight A’s

In The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Only hospital in Mississippi, one of only 29 in the United States

COLUMBUS, Miss., December 14, 2020 – The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care, has announced the fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and once again awarded Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle an ‘A’ for achieving the highest national standards in patient safety. Baptist Golden Triangle is the only hospital in Mississippi and one of only 29 hospitals in the United States to be awarded an ‘A’ in every grading cycle since 2012.

“I am extremely proud of our employees, physicians and staff who consistently place the safety and wellbeing of our patients as a top priority. This is especially important as we continue to see the extremely difficult burden the COVID-19 pandemic is placing on our community, our patients and those on the front line of delivering care,” said Baptist Golden Triangle Administrator Paul Cade.

“But, as I make my rounds, I have witnessed some of the most heartwarming acts of kindness and empathy by our care providers towards our patients, proving that you can be dedicated to providing safe care while still showing concern and compassion, even in these most difficult circumstances,” he added.

“Consistently achieving an ‘A’ for patient safety, year after year, day after day, is an extraordinary accomplishment and we congratulate the clinicians, staff, volunteers and leadership of Baptist Golden Triangle,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

“We applaud Baptist Golden Triangle for protecting the lives and safety of patients and health care workers. Given the immense challenges confronting the American health care system as it battles the COVID-19 pandemic. We need all hospitals to demonstrate such relentless dedication to their patients.”

The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of ‘A’ ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘F; to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice a year. The Leapfrog’s grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
