COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Educators are Essential event again this year. For the fourth consecutive year, the CLCC Education Committee and Chamber members will be visiting each individual school or district to present a “back to school” and “support our teachers” pep rally with giveaways.

Through the efforts of the Chamber, the Education Committee is to have a pep rally at each individual school or district in our community at their convenience during their professional development days/ back to school faculty and staff convocation. At each of these events, the CLCC Education Committee will be showing the community’s support to our teachers through thank you signs, cheerleaders, raffling off gift cards and giveaways, and each educator will go home with a goodie bag including more giveaways, coupons, and best of all a discount card for educators to use at Chamber Member businesses.

This year the Chamber’s sponsors gave $5,000 in cash for our teachers. An increase from $3,000 in 2016. In addition the Chamber sponsors are giving door prizes in total value of $10,000.

“The mission of this event is to show the educators of our community that the business community supports them and values them” said Lisa James, President of the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce. “Our educators are making an impact on our workforce that the business community has to choose from in the future and we just want them to feel appreciated.”
