2nd Annual Lemonade Day Expanding to Entire Golden Triangle

STARKVILLE, Miss., April 2, 2019 - When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! On Saturday, June 1st, Lemonade Day, an educational program that teaches kids real-world experience about how to own and operate a business, will return to Starkville - and is now expanding to the entire Golden Triangle area!

With its sweet debut in 2018, Lemonade Day reached over 150 young entrepreneurs in Starkville and showcased over 60 stands featuring a variety of delicious flavors, homemade treats and marketing themes. This year’s goal is to increase participation to 300 aspiring young business men and women.

Jeffrey Rupp, Lemonade Day Coordinator and the Director of MSU’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach, says, “All of us were so blown away by the enthusiasm of the kids and their parents and the support of the community that we wanted to find a way to expand the program to the entire Golden Triangle.”

Lemonade Day Golden Triangle is proudly sponsored by Mark Castleberry, Cadence Bank and the MSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Outreach.  City partners for this year’s event include the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Columbus, the West Point- Clay County Growth Alliance and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.

Mark Castleberry of Castle Properties is looking forward to this year’s big day. “It’s warming up outside and I am ready for some great lemonade, creativity, and profit for kids in the Golden Triangle,” said Castleberry. “We had such great success in our first year in Starkville and I know this year will even be better.”

Area chamber organizations are excited as well “The really special aspect I like about GTR Lemonade Day is it encourages entrepreneurship at a young age,” said Lisa James, Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce President. “Students in our community, even participating at the simplest level, will be operating a business for a day. I can’t think of a better way to expose them to entrepreneurship that is fun and easily scaled to any business they will work at in the future.”

Barbara Bigelow, Executive Director of Main Street Columbus, says "Main Street Columbus is excited to be part of this fabulous program helping kids launch their small business during the annual Lemonade Day program.  What a great opportunity to encourage these young entrepreneurs of tomorrow."

Each child that registers for Lemonade Day will receive a FREE backpack with an Entrepreneur Workbook and access to an online interactive program that teaches them the valuable lessons of Lemonade Day - including how to set a goal, plan, work the plan and achieve their dreams. Once a youth pays their investor back, they keep all the money they earn, and are encouraged to spend some, save some, and share some of their profit.
