Recreational options and a boatload of fun abound in Columbus, MS! Sunny in weather as well as disposition, our community allows you and your family to bask in a year-round temperate climate and jump into non-stop recreational delight. Discover our regional options for recreation below:

Below are a few highlighted park and recreational activities that help make Columbus such a wonderful, fun place for all:

Lake Lowndes State Park

Lake Lowndes State Park offers complete recreational facilities for individuals, families, and groups. Included are award-winning hiking trails, such as the Opossum Trail–a 5.6-mile trail with a self-guided tour outlining native plants, trees, and wildlife in the park. Located on a beautiful 150-acre lake, the park provides limitless opportunities for fishing and camping. Cabins available for rent, as well as facilities for football, tennis, softball, and other organized sports.

Dewayne Hayes Recreation Area and Campground

Located immediately next to Columbus Lake on the Tenn-Tom Waterway, the Dewayne Hayes Recreation Area has 100 sites with electric and water hookups and 10 primitive sites. The campground provides convenient access to the waterway and there is ample opportunity for fishing, boating, or just spending the day hiking and sightseeing along the banks of the river. Kids will love the day-use Spray Park.

Plymouth Bluff Environmental Center

Located in a secluded area high above the old Tombigbee River Channel near Columbus, Mississippi, the Plymouth Bluff Center is a 190-acre educational and recreational facility. 

The Plymouth Bluff Center offers facilities and an atmosphere that lends itself beautifully for training, education, and recreation for a variety of groups including professional associations, businesses, educational institutions, city and county governments, churches, as well as for individuals and their families and friends.

The center is equipped to support such activities as:

  • Retreats, planning sessions, and workshops
  • Training, educational programs and professional development opportunities
  • Conferences
  • Formal and informal gatherings such as weddings & family reunions
  • Environmental and natural science studies

Plymouth Bluff Website

The Riverwalk

The Columbus Riverwalk is a 4.2 mile trail that travels partly along the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway with beautiful Mississippi natural scenery.

Propst Park

Propst Park in the city of Columbus MS has a wide range of activities for you and your children—even your furry ones!—to participate in. Below are some features:
